The original castle was built around 1210 AD, during the crusades and the present castle around 1454 AD. Next to the castle one can see the remains of an ancient sugar factory. The castle is today surrounded by vineyards and is a great tourist attraction. Kolossi Castle was the Commanderie of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem.
